Our name is a nod to the urban theorist Kevin Lynch, whose “Good City Form,” spells out the connection between community values and physical form.

BEN SCHULMAN, PRINCIPAL

Ben Schulman is a strategist blending creative capital, communications, and development to build connected, thriving places. He has worked across urbanism, media, fintech, nonprofit, and development, leading teams and advising architects, designers, developers, and municipalities to turn ideas into impact.

As Vice President at the Memphis Medical District Collaborative, he helped drive $500M+ in development through funding programs and placemaking strategies. At Small Change, he shaped the brand voice of one of the first real estate equity crowdfunding platforms, advancing community-driven investment. Now, as Director of Place at a5 Branding & Digital, he integrates branding, placemaking, and development to reshape perceptions of place.

Previously, Ben served as editor of Chicago Architect and Newcity Design, and his writing has appeared in ARCHITECT, CityLab, and Metropolis. He has lectured at Columbia University GSAPP, the University of Chicago, and the University of Memphis. He serves on multiple boards and is a Good Work Institute and Next City Vanguard Fellow.
